dammit
I am drinking the kool aid. I should be in Germany in first 1/4 2014. $1500 for a beater sounds right. That 13K one is too spendy

Think of it this way, it'd be perfect for driving to classic car meets and opening the hood to make people go "what in fuck..."
Three-cylinder, radiator behind engine, three coils...

So I think what you're saying is, you need to buy the Wartburg now, and when your Saab comes in, you'll sell me the Wartburg, Y/N?

I'm in Western NC. My current projects are my Ranchero and an advisory/expert role in a large number of Land-Rovers, so I don't know about any Wartburg I'd have to get into immediately, but a driver project would be funny as hell.
Even if I couldn't afford space/money for such a project this spring, I'd sure like to see one.

ah yeah, I rebuilt a 2.25 S3 diesel last year, almost got into an 85 5 speed Range this year but the Fox wagon will take me through the winter. I have done crazier shit than bring over a Wartburg. Brought over a M-B 407D a few years back. 38K original miles, 206D Westy in the foreground

Nice, definitely a step up from the typical Westphalia. Of course, while we're discussing Wartburgs and vans, you could always bring back a Barkas:
In all likelihood, a step *down* from the Westphalia...

I see those too, with a camper conversion. One for 3000 euro on mobile.de. That might have to be the ticket. But that wagon is so, dare I say it, sexy (?)

That it is. And it's called a "Camping". I mean, come on. An east German wagon that has infinitely more stank than a Yugo, has old bubblecar freak factor, and is called a Camping?! It's just rad.

A poster of that and some of the other old Wartburg ads would make it a massive hit at any car show.
